5 WAYS TO FIND YOUR CIRCULAR STYLE
1. Take stock of your wardrobe
Start by going through what you already have:
Lay everything out on the bed and sort out the items you don’t use: repair, sell, give away, save for the children... Then hang back up your favourites and the items you wear every day. Take a closer look at these items; they’re likely your wardrobe staples and reveal what you like.
Identify which items truly reflect YOU! What is it that you love about these items? The fabric, the colour, the patterns, the silhouette, the style?
2. Prepare for renewal
Make a list of your new wardrobe and what’s missing. When you start looking for new items: go for timeless, well-made pieces in sustainable materials such as linen, wool, cotton or recycled textiles. Quality and handmade garments last longer and often become more beautiful with time. Perhaps you need to recreate a garment with us?
3. Always choose second-hand first
Shopping second-hand is a fantastic way to find your own unique style. You can often find quality items at a better price, and frequently in styles that are hard to come by in today’s fast fashion. The colours, materials and garments you find yourself drawn to also reveal exactly what YOU like. By buying ready-made garments instead of new ones, you also reduce the demand for new production, which saves water, energy and reduces emissions from the textile industry.
... or shop REmake/Slow Fashion
Slow fashion is about creating and consuming fashion in a more conscious way – with respect for the environment, textile workers and the garment’s lifespan. The garments are usually made from natural materials or recycled fibres and can be ordered based on your measurements instead of you having to try on endless items until you find something that fits. Slow Fashion also encourages repair, remaking and lending. You can support local and small-scale manufacturers like us instead of mass production.
4. Look after your clothes
Extend the lifespan of your new garments by washing them gently, airing them out instead of washing them frequently, and mending small damages straight away. Invest in a clothing care routine with a wool comb, steam iron and eco-friendly detergents. Take the opportunity to learn a bit of sewing and simple mending techniques (socks and jeans, for example). Then you can try mending or altering some of the garments you’ve sorted out.
5. From now on...
Buy fewer items, but buy them better – stick to your newfound style, your colour combinations and your personal wardrobe staples. Think carefully about every purchase and ask yourself and the manufacturer: Is this something I’ll actually wear? Does it suit my style? Has it been produced sustainably? Who made it and where?
Did you know that there is so much textile waste today that, sadly, a whole lorryload of textiles is dumped on our planet every SECOND...
So THANK YOU for helping to create a better future, where circular thinking is the new normal. The fact that you are finding your own personal style at the same time helps to defy the enormous consumerism and trend-chasing created by Fast Fashion and Ultrafast Fashion.
